July 4, 2025 – Addis Ababa
The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has officially submitted its agenda items to the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the ongoing national dialogue process.
During the handover ceremony held at the Commission’s secretariat, Chief Commissioner Professor Mesfin Araya expressed appreciation for the active participation of the Church’s clergy and followers in the dialogue process. He acknowledged the Church’s historical and moral role in promoting peace and unity in the country.
The delegation, led by His Grace Abune Filipos, Archbishop of the South Omo and Ari Zones Diocese and President of St. Trinity University, presented an 18-page document outlining key agenda items. His Grace emphasized that the Church is actively engaged in the process because the Commission has addressed its concerns and ensured meaningful participation.
“The Commission has made sincere efforts to involve the Church throughout the dialogue process and allowed us to submit our agenda independently,” said His Grace Abune Filipos. “We believe these agenda items contribute significantly to peace and stability, and the Church is committed to supporting such national efforts.”
Commissioners Melaku Woldemariam and Ambassador Mohammed Dirir were also present at the handover ceremony. Both welcomed the Church’s engagement and called for stronger and continued partnerships with religious institutions in support of the Commission’s mission.
The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission continues to gather agendas from various stakeholders across the country, emphasizing inclusivity, transparency, and national consensus-building.
