ENDC to Hold Tigray’s Dialogue in Addis, Pledges In-Region Process When Conditions Allow

March 27, 2026

The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission has announced that it will temporarily conduct agenda consultations for Tigray region in Addis Ababa, citing the absence of enabling conditions within the region.

Speaking at a press briefing held for media representatives, the Chief Commissioner Professor Mesfin Areya said the Commission remains committed to ensuring the full participation of Tigray in Ethiopia’s national dialogue process. He emphasized that the Commission’s methodology is designed to be inclusive, reaching stakeholders from the grassroots level, including woreda representatives.
According to the Chief Commissioner, the Commission has made sustained efforts to engage stakeholders from Tigray. These efforts include 22 rounds of discussions with the region’s interim administration, civic organizations, political parties, and other relevant actors.

However, due to the current situation in the region, the Council of Commissioners has decided to proceed with the agenda collection process in Addis Ababa. The consultations will involve Tigrayan stakeholders residing both in the capital and in Tigray, and will serve as an interim measure until conditions allow for activities to take place within the region.

The agenda collection process is scheduled to take place from April 1 to April 3, 2026 in Addis Ababa.

Professor Mesfin reaffirmed that the Commission intends to carry out in-person engagements in Tigray as soon as the situation permits. He also called on all invited stakeholders to actively participate and contribute to the success of the national dialogue process.
