The Commission Prepares to Launch Activities in Tigray Region

July 4, 2025 – Addis Ababa

The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission is making preparations to commence its operations in the Tigray region, according to a press briefing delivered by the Commission’s Spokesperson, Tibebu Taddesse.

In his statement to the media, Tibebu outlined key developments regarding the Commission’s upcoming activities in the Tigray region, ongoing engagements with the Ethiopian diaspora, the agenda-setting process, and preparations for the national plenary session.

He noted that groundwork is being laid for initiating the dialogue process in Tigray, including ongoing discussions with regional stakeholders and the Interim Administration’s President, General Tadesse Worede. These efforts aim to ensure that the process is inclusive and reflective of the region’s realities.

The spokesperson also emphasized the Commission’s commitment to inclusivity, revealing that discussions are being held with four political parties that had previously disengaged from the dialogue process. Additionally, the Commission is working to involve political parties that have not yet participated, as well as armed groups and prominent individuals currently under judicial custody.

Tibebu called on media organizations to play an active role in encouraging the participation of armed groups and other excluded actors in the national dialogue process.

Regarding the diaspora’s involvement, the spokesperson reported that virtual consultations have been held with various diaspora communities, with many submitting their agenda items via email and the Commission’s website.

He further stated that the Commission has completed the development of frameworks and guidelines for conducting the national plenary. Criteria for selecting dialogue facilitators have also been established, and the nomination process for some facilitators is currently underway.

The Commission reaffirms its dedication to ensuring an inclusive, transparent, and participatory national dialogue process across all regions and sectors of Ethiopian society.
