Religious Institutions Urged to Support National Dialogue Initiatives

The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC) held a consultative meeting with representatives of religious institutions in Bishoftu to strengthen their role in the ongoing national dialogue process.
In his opening remarks, Commissioner Mulugeta Aggo highlighted the Commission’s inclusive approach, stressing that all religious groups have a vital role to play in ensuring the success of the dialogue. He emphasized that the participation and support of religious institutions have been highly valued throughout the process.
Commissioner Mulugeta also noted that dialogue activities have been conducted in all regions of Ethiopia, with efforts currently underway to include the Tigray region. On diaspora engagement, he explained that the Commission is collecting agenda items from Ethiopian communities across different parts of the world.
The Commissioner further encouraged religious institutions to leverage their moral authority, networks, and resources to promote and support the national dialogue initiative.
During the event, ENDC experts presented on the concept of national dialogue, international experiences, the role of religious institutions, and the Commission’s achievements over the past three years. Participants engaged in group discussions and provided recommendations to strengthen their involvement in the dialogue process.
In her closing remarks, Deputy Commissioner Hiroute Gebresellassie thanked participants for their valuable contributions. She underscored that religious institutions carry a responsibility to educate their followers about the importance of dialogue and to actively support the national dialogue initiative.
