Mekelle, Tigray — Political parties in the Tigray Region have expressed optimism about the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission’s (ENDC) engagement, describing the Commission’s recent visit as a hopeful step toward long-term peace and national unity.
A delegation from the ENDC traveled to Mekelle earlier this week and held discussions with several political parties operating in the region. The meetings focused on laying the groundwork for initiating the Commission’s operations in Tigray.
During the consultations, Commissioners emphasized the importance of inclusive and respectful dialogue among all factions. “As people of one nation, we must join hands to address the pressing issues in Tigray and across Ethiopia,” said one of the Commissioners. They also underlined that the success of the dialogue process hinges on creating a conducive environment and ensuring active participation from all sides.
Political parties welcomed the Commission’s arrival in the region despite ongoing challenges. They noted that launching the dialogue process in Tigray should be a top priority and highlighted its potential to ease tensions and prevent the resurgence of conflict.
The parties also urged the Commission to tailor its methodology to the region’s unique context. They emphasized the need for a robust public awareness campaign to promote understanding and engagement among communities.
In response, the ENDC affirmed its commitment to incorporating the feedback received and announced its intention to begin the process soon. The Commission plans to work closely with local stakeholders to ensure that the dialogue is inclusive, participatory, and reflective of the region’s realities.
