Knowledge and Research: Key Pillars for Effective National Dialogue – Commissioner Yonas Addaye (PhD)

August 21, 2025 (Bahirdar) – The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission convened a two-day forum in Bahir Dar, bringing together over 200 scholars from 10 universities across the Amhara region. The event, held under the theme “The Role of Scholars in Effective National Dialogue,” aimed to gather solution-oriented perspectives and alternative ideas to enhance inclusivity in the dialogue process.

Opening the forum, Commissioner Yonas Addaye (PhD) stressed that knowledge and research are vital foundations for meaningful and sustainable national dialogue. He highlighted that dialogue must be understood as a continuous process, requiring society to embrace a culture of consultation and open discussion.

Throughout the sessions, university professors presented research papers and scholarly reflections on strengthening the national dialogue process, sparking rich discussions and exchanges of ideas.

The Commission noted that engaging the academic community plays a vital role in ensuring diverse voices are heard and in shaping practical pathways toward Ethiopia’s collective future.
