Health Care Community Called to Support the National Dialogue Process

February 7, 2026

The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC) has called on the health care community to actively contribute to the success of the national dialogue process.

The Commission organized an awareness-creation session for leaders and professionals from health institutions operating under the Addis Ababa City Health Bureau. The event was hosted by the Addis Ababa City Health Bureau and brought together more than 300 participants, including health professionals and leaders at various administrative levels.

During the session, the Chief Commissioner of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission, Professor Mesfin Araya, delivered a presentation outlining the Commission’s mandate and its progress to date. He explained that the Commission has been working to identify fundamental national issues that have caused disagreements among stakeholders and has conducted agenda-collection and consultation activities across all regions of the country, with the exception of the Tigray region, as well as within the Ethiopian diaspora.

Highlighting the Commission’s remaining tasks, the Chief Commissioner noted that conducting the dialogue process in the Tigray region and convening the National Dialogue Conference are among the key upcoming milestones.

Professor Mesfin emphasized that Ethiopia has long relied on armed confrontation to resolve political differences, a practice he noted has proven ineffective. He stressed that dialogue remains the only viable and sustainable path to addressing the country’s prevailing challenges.

Recognizing the extensive reach of health care institutions within communities, the Commission underscored the importance of engaging health professionals as key agents in disseminating the principles and objectives of the national dialogue. Accordingly, participants were encouraged to use their professional networks to raise public awareness and promote dialogue-based conflict resolution.

It is recalled that the Commission previously held an engagement meeting with key stakeholders on January 13, 2026, which was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Addis Ababa City Health Bureau.
