Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission

First Round of Tigray Agenda Collection Underway

April 1, 2026

The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission has commenced the first phase of the agenda collection process for Tigray as part of the national dialogue initiative. The process is currently being held in Addis Ababa.

Opening the event, Chief Commissioner Professor Mesfin Areaya emphasized that the consequences of conflict have left deep national trauma, underscoring the importance of dialogue in addressing Ethiopia’s pressing challenges. He expressed his satisfaction with the participation of Tigray stakeholders in the process, noting it as a significant step toward inclusive national engagement.

The Chief Commissioner also clarified that, until conditions allow for activities to be conducted within the region, the Commission will continue facilitating dialogue sessions in Addis Ababa. He added that the outcomes of this agenda collection process will serve as key inputs for the upcoming national dialogue plenary.

The event has brought together more than 600 participants from the Tigray region, including representatives of political parties, religious institutions, civic organizations, and other prominent figures.

The agenda collection process will take place over three consecutive days, providing stakeholders the opportunity to present issues of both regional and national importance. Participants will also elect their representatives to the national dialogue plenary.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to conducting similar engagements within Tigray once conditions permit, as has been done in other regions, to ensure broader participation and inclusivity in the process.
