ENDC Engages Tigray Media Professionals in Consultative Forum

October 23, 2025

The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC) hosted a consultative forum with digital and broadcast media representatives from the Tigray Region. This initiative aims to enhance the media’s role in supporting and advancing the national dialogue process within the region.

In his opening remarks, Chief Commissioner Professor Mesfin Areaya outlined the Commission’s significant activities, highlighting the successful completion of dialogue processes involving stakeholders from 11 regions, two city administrations, federal entities, and the diaspora community.

He emphasized that the current focus is on the dialogue process specific to Tigray, asserting that any national dialogue that overlooks the region is fundamentally incomplete.

The Chief Commissioner urged media professionals to actively promote awareness of the national dialogue process, encouraging community participation.

Media representatives, on their part, voiced their concerns, noting that the Commission has limited ability to address their primary issues.

They stressed the importance of implementing the Pretoria Agreement and urged the Commission to advocate for government action on this front. Key issues raised included the return of refugees to their homelands, the territorial integrity of the region, and other pressing matters affecting the people of Tigray.

In his closing remarks, Commissioner Dr. Ambaye Ogato underscored the need for a focused approach to the challenges faced by Tigray, which he described as a unique case within the broader national context of crisis. He reiterated that dialogue is the ultimate solution and called upon media professionals to serve as platforms for this dialogue.
“We understand and value the people of Tigray’s concerns,” he stated. “The Commission is committed to amplifying these voices to ensure a constructive dialogue process.”

The two-day event, held on October 22 and 23, was attended by journalists, social media actors, and activists, all of whom contributed to a meaningful exchange on the future of Tigray and its role in national discourse.
