Ambassadors Commend the Work of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission

July 22, 2025

The Chief Commissioner of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission (ENDC) held a series of high-level discussions this week with representatives of partner organizations and countries supporting Ethiopia’s National Dialogue initiative.

On Monday, the Chief Commissioner met with board members of the National Dialogue Project to assess the contributions of partner countries and deliberate on upcoming activities. During the meeting, he acknowledged the significant role these countries have played in advancing the dialogue process and emphasized the tangible results achieved through their support.

The Chief Commissioner also encouraged continued engagement, urging partner countries to strengthen their relationships with the Commission and maintain their commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s path toward inclusive dialogue and national consensus.

Mr. Samuel Gbaydee Doe, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Representative to Ethiopia, underscored the importance of national dialogue in fostering peace and stability in the country. In his remarks, he called on the board to sustain and amplify its efforts to ensure the process reaches a successful outcome.

Ambassadors from various countries attending the meeting commended the Commission’s work, describing its activities as vital to Ethiopia’s future. They expressed optimism that the Commission will effectively carry out the remaining phases of the dialogue and reaffirmed their countries’ commitment to supporting the initiative.

The board, chaired by UNDP Ethiopia, includes representatives from the European Union, New Zealand, Ireland, Luxembourg, Norway, and Japan. Other countries have contributed to the project at different stages.

In a related development, the Chief Commissioner also met with Mr. Zakari Nelson, Head of Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Their discussion focused on strategies to enhance diaspora engagement in the national dialogue process. This meeting builds on earlier partnership efforts initiated with U.S. Ambassador Ervin Massinga and marks another step forward in deepening cooperation between the Commission and the U.S. government.

These engagements reflect the Commission’s ongoing commitment to inclusive dialogue and international partnership in the pursuit of national consensus and lasting peace.
